HR Trustee Role
(Voluntary)
Location: Leeds
Hours: 30 hours per year
Contract: (TBC)
Closing Date: 30th November 2026
Help shape the future of The Wren Bakery and make a lasting difference to the lives of women who have experienced disadvantage, using baking and barista training as a pathway towards employment.
We are looking for someone with Human Resources expertise to join our Trustee Board and work with us to build on our journey so far.
*All trustee roles are voluntary and unpaid.
About The Wren Bakery
The Wren Bakery is an innovative response to a need we saw for women who have faced social and economic disadvantage. We are a social enterprise designed to offer opportunities for women to build a future for themselves. We provide a safe and professional environment where women can grow holistically, encouraging ambition, restoration and second chances. We use baking and barista training as a tool to take women on a journey to employability and entrepreneurship, equipping them with transferable skills for the working world. We offer courses, work experience, and empower women to build their career. By investing in and supporting the women to realise their dreams through training, employment and community we aim to break cycles of poverty, violence & disadvantage.
Following an audit of the current skills & expertise on the board, The Wren Bakery are seeking a Trustees with experience in Human Resources
The HR Trustee’s main responsibilities are to:
Act as the Boards lead trustee for HR, contributing specialist insight to Board discussions and decision making
Ensure that the HR functions of TWB are conducted within legal requirements and best practice and comply with the standards set by The Wren Bakery.
Advise the Board on good practice in staffing and HR matters including on recruitment, performance management and policies and procedures.
Advise the Board on staffing issues, including discipline and grievances.
Advise the Board on any restructuring including redundancies.
The HR Trustee must have experience in HR matters, particularly in respect of employment law.
The duties of a Trustee Board member are to:
Ensure that TWB complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations;
Contribute actively to the Trustee Board by giving strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
Ensure that TWB pursues its objects as defined in its governing document;
Ensure the financial stability of TWB.
Stay up to date with matters of charity law and issues affecting TWB.
